Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (2024)

Wartales is an intensive open-world RPG game that lets you take control of a party as they look for wealth and dominion. You can make powerful weapons, capture prisoners, steal items, and trade goods with the right companion. And to do either of the above, you need to assign them a Profession.

There are several professions to choose from, with each bringing bonuses to your party, and some are too crucial to live without them. Whether you want to add to your weapons arsenal or feed your companions, there’s a Profession to facilitate this.

10 Scholar

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (1)

The Scholar profession provides you with runes to study different codices. Associated with Tombs, it grants you enormous knowledge, which you can use to create items. To make one of your companions a scholar, you must create a Lectern in your camp using the workshop. The scholar can then identify weaknesses in your enemy’s camp, giving you a tactical advantage.

And since they can build powerful items, your party’s defense and ambush capabilities are bolstered. If you want to earn Knowledge points quickly, have Scholars in your party. With knowledge points, you unlock powerful abilities and skills.

9 Woodcutter

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (2)

The Woodcutter profession has less value in the game, but it comes in handy when you need timber or firewood. A Woodcutter will allow you to obtain wood without hunting it down in the forests. They can also play the Woodcutter minigame throughout the five provinces.

Your woodcutting companion will help you earn extra wood and can meet other components while on the job. While not an important role, their lumberjack ability can afford you buffs, strengthening your party.

8 Cook

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (3)

Your companions need food to keep your party vibrant and safe. Without food, the members become angry and might leave the camp. This leaves you vulnerable to attacks from your enemies. Once you have your Cooking Pot ready, you can assign a companion to this role.

With an assigned cook, food consumption reduces by two, ensuring there’s enough for everyone. You don’t have to stick to one recipe either, since each cook comes with different recipes. The food heals the party and grants buffs for improved combat.

7 Miner

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (4)

Blacksmiths rely on ores, and this is where a Miner companion comes in handy. Miners in the Wartales game allow you to find raw materials necessary for creating items. Depending on the level, you can get Constitution or Strength as a bonus.

Like the Woodcutter profession, you can engage in different minigames for extra ores. And if you don’t have miners in your crew, you can assign this role to your prisoners. Your companions can then participate in other important roles. Keep in mind that depleted mining spots take time to replenish, so mine with caution.

6 Angler

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (5)

As the name suggests, the Angler companion will provide your party with fish. They must visit the Fisheries or special points in the water to catch the fish. Your Blacksmith will therefore need to create fishing hooks in the Workshop.

With the right tools, you will have to complete a minigame, then you can proceed to fish. As an Angler, you get a Willpower bonus in all ranks and a Critical Hit bonus in Companion and Apprentice RANK. Fish helps rejuvenate and improve the health of your party.

5 Thief

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (6)

As you progress in the game, you’ll need to assign a companion to the Thief profession. They come in handy when you want to open locked chests. Of course, you can play a minigame to get the lockpicks. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it sounds. Your thief can easily break the locked chests and steal their valuables.

Thieves also help you free prisoners and are excellent assassins and rogues. You can use them to ambush enemies as their attacks from behind kill pretty quickly. And with a Camp Chest, you can launder the stolen items, which, with time, you can add to your inventory.

4 Bard

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (7)

With this profession, you will require a Workshop to create lutes. Bard enables you to learn different songs, which you can sing in the Inn. However, for this to happen, you must meet certain conditions. If all goes well, you must play a minigame using the created lute.

The profession needs utmost dedication and precision when singing your songs. But the hustle is worth it since you will earn influence and money, not to mention improving allies’ ability in your party.

3 Alchemist

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (8)

If you want to unlock your party’s potential, you’ll need an Alchemist in your party. An Alchemist allows you to create some of the most crucial items you use in battle and your Camp. And if you want to farm rat nests, Alchemist is the only profession that allows you to do so.

They are efficient at reactivating the nests. They are the go-to professions for creating powerful items like bee hive bombs. Having at least one Alchemist can significantly bolster your party’s combat skills.

2 Tinkerers

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (9)

A profession available from the start of the game, a Tinkerer allows you to unlock the most essential items for your party. And for this, you’ll need a Workshop and of course, a tinkerer. They create just about anything.

Whether you need belt accessories, camping gear, or animal accessories, they’ve got you sorted. The Critical Hit bonus makes it an ideal profession for a Scout. As you progress through the game, Tinkerers tend to unlock more complex items, opening doors to more opportunities.

1 Blacksmith

Wartales: Every Profession, Ranked (10)

Having a Blacksmith ensures your companions always have the necessary gear for their work. Without them, having an Angler or Miner would be useless. Blacksmiths also give you extra Strength, ideal for your Melee characters.

In the beginning, you’ll make inferior items, but as you progress, the new recipes will help you create more effective options. Like in the Angler profession, you’ll need to play a minigame to craft the items.
