What does USPS last collection hours mean? ›

If a mailpiece is dropped off at a 24-hour postal location before the last pickup time listed at that location, it would be postmarked with the date it was dropped off. Similarly, if a mailpiece is deposited in a Collection Box receptacle before the last pickup time, it will be collected and postmarked that same day.

All deliveries should be made by 5:00 p.m. local time Monday through Saturday. Unusual circ*mstances (such as traffic, staffing fluctuations, severe weather, natural disaster, changes in carrier route, etc.) can cause deliveries to be made after this time.

So when you're ready to schedule a free package pickup, we're ready to make the pickup, available Monday to Saturday. Free package pickup is available for packages being sent by domestic Express Mail, Priority Mail, or returns packages – and international mail.

If the box has already been emptied, the day indicator tab on the postbox will be changed to show the following day. If you've missed the collection for that day, there will be a sign on the postbox letting you know where the nearest late collection box is.

How Often Do USPS Drop Boxes Get Emptied? Every active USPS blue box is emptied daily.
