Is Elemental worth seeing? ›

Elemental may not satisfy as fully as the greatest Pixar pictures, but it remains a solid story told with dazzling visual flair. With a heartwarming message and stunning animation, Elemental proves Pixar hasn't lost its touch.

Ember's Diverse Family

With Chinese, Filipino, and Iranian roots, her lineage showcases a rich diversity of backgrounds. In an interview, Leah Lewis, the actress voicing Ember, shared her perspective on the character's ethnicity, suggesting that Ember has both Chinese and Filipino descent.

Add a Review. Too familiar, but a story well-told. Elemental has several obvious glaring problems. For one thing, the attempt to make the elements' differences an overt metaphor for race/culture is shallow and misplaced at best most of the time.

Water people read as oblivious white people (a relative of Wade's condescends to Ember by complimenting her English), but unlike stereotypical stuffy WASPs, they're so free with their emotions they often can't stop crying. (For what it's worth, Lewis is Chinese American, and Athie was born in Mauritania.)

Alongside the aforementioned praises, Elemental has earned acclaim from LGBTQ+ viewers due to the film featuring the studio's first non-binary character Lake Ripple – who is Wade's younger sibling.

The woke, occult content in ELEMENTAL is gratuitous. It adds nothing to the story and will annoy many family moviegoers who don't want their children exposed to such content. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

Is Elemental kid friendly? ›

In addition to the violent scenes mentioned above, Elemental has some scenes that could scare or disturb children under 5 years. For example: Ember gets deeply enraged on several occasions and explodes with fury, often setting things on fire. Her anger and ferocity may upset some very young viewers.

An empathetic, 20-something water guy, Wade is observant, a good listener and literally bubbling with compassion for others.

He is also very sensitive and cries for many things, a trait shared with the rest of his family. He has a close relationship with his family, but had a hard relationship with Dewey (his father), who passed away some time ago.

Summary. Ember and Wade are in their early to mid-20s in Elemental, as they are old enough to have full-time jobs but are still figuring out their identities.

There is many sexual innuendos that are not so well hidden, I would say they are very implied but not completely blatant. Lot of "cuss words" made up in a clever way that you still 100% know it's a cuss word but is in context to the element.

While I agree with the people saying the marketing team did not advertise this properly and other characters fell a little flat, we must remember this movie's target audience is children.
