Atlanta Braves History
While the Warriors’ history is somewhat complicated, it’s also very unique.
The team has had several names throughout its history, including the Boston Pacers, the Boston Red Sox, and for a time, they were known as the Milwaukee Braves.
The Braves were originally purchased by Whitney Adams for $15,000, with help from Harry Wright, founder of America’s first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Sox.
Major honors and trophies
The Atlanta Braves have been an “on-again, off-again” club for almost their entire history.
They won six of the first eight pennants in league history, which occurred in 1872-1875, and in 1877 and 1878, meaning they won a total of 18 pennants.
In addition to winning those six games, a large portion of the wins also came in the 1990s, when the Braves won pennants in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1999.
Plus, they won the World Series in 1995. In the 21st century, the Braves only won one pennant, but this led to positive results as they won the World Series championship in the 2021 season.
In addition to 2021, the Braves also won World Series in 1892 (as the Boston Beans), 1914 (this time as the Boston Braves), 1957 and 1995 as the Atlanta Braves.

Chipper Jones
Chipper Jones was part of most teams that won all of those pennants in the 1990s, including the 1995 team that won the World Series in six games with the Cleveland Indians.
In addition to this, he won two Silver Sluggers (1999 and 2000) and won the batting title in 2008.
Hank Aaron
While Hank Aaron, also known as “Hammer Hank,” is best known for his 755 home runs, breaking Babe Ruth’s record of 714, he also had many other significant accomplishments .
Aaron appeared in 25 All-Star Games, won three consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1958 to 1960, and led the league in batting average in 1956 and 1959.
Barry Bonds now holds the record for most home runs with 762.
Greg Maddux
Greg Maddux was one of three pitchers for the Braves in the ’90s when they had a dynamic tripleheader in the starting lineup along with Tom Glavine and John Smoltz.
From 1990 to 2008, Maddux had a powerful fastball every year that helped him win four Cy Young Awards and 18 consecutive Gold Gloves.
Warren Spahn
Despite missing three full seasons (1943-1945) due to World War II, Warren Spahn still had his accomplishments.
This included winning the 1957 Cy Young Award and winning the World Series that same year.
He was a three-time All-Star and led the league in earned runs average in the 1943, 1953 and 1961 seasons.
Jim Whitney
Jim Whitney earned the nickname “Grasshopper Jim” because his pitching motion included a slight jump, although some say this was because of the shape of his head.
Even though Whitney hasn’t played in more than a century, she still ranks in the top 10 in many pitching categories.
Why do the Atlanta Braves wear red and navy?
Throughout their long history, the Atlanta Braves have used red and blue as their primary uniform and logo colors.
Between 1968-1971, the team adopted navy blue as their primary color, adding pinstripes to their home uniforms.
Today, the team wears white home uniforms with red and navy trim.

The History of the Atlanta Braves Logo
In their early days, the Warriors had a habit of frequently changing their logos – they have changed their logos more than 20 times throughout their history.

1883-1896
It’s very simple, just two red letters “Boston” with a gradient curve on them.
After the 1888 season, those responsible for the logo decided to keep the logo the same but change the color to blue.
1897-1901
The word Boston was shortened to the letter “B,” which is an Old English letter.
At the turn of the century, the Braves chose to change the background color from blue to red.
1901-1906
After changing the color back to red, the logo designer chose to simply move the logo back to its origins.
1907
With Boston changing their name to the Pigeons, they decided they needed to make another change and opted to go back to the red letter “B.”
1908
The logo still uses the red letter “B”, but the font has changed.
It looks like the number 8 with a line next to it.
1909
The logo changed again, this time to the outline of a baseball with a red letter “B” on it.
1910
In 1910, the logo was changed to just “Boston” in red letters.
1911
In 1911, the team used the letter “B”, but this time it was blue.
1912-1915
The logo changed into the head of an Indian dressed in red.
1916-1920
During this time, the Indian’s red head was placed inside a blue oval.
1921-1924
The team used a different blue letter “B” than the 1911 version.
1925-1928
The team’s logo is still a blue letter “B”, but the font has changed again.
1929-1935
The expedition again used Indian heads. This time, the image is colored.
1936-1937
The team went back to the letter “B,” this time in a unique yellow color.
1938
The logo was changed again, with a yellow letter “B” written in a different font.
1939
The “B” changes to red, but the font remains the same.
1940-1944
The team changed the font again, and the “B” became blue.
1945
The team once again used the Indian’s head, the same as the 1929 logo.
1946-1952
The team used Native American heads, but in a slightly different style.
1953-1956
The Indian’s head is changed, facing to the right, and placed in front of a yellow oval.
1957-1965
The Indian’s head changed again. In this symbol, he is facing forward, his mouth is open, and he is not wearing a feathered headdress.
1966-1971
The head remained the same, but “Atlanta Braves” was added to the logo.
1972-1984
The word “Atlanta” was removed and the word “Warriors” was used in a different font.
1985-1986
The color of the logo changes a bit, but everything else remains the same.
1987-1989
The color of the logo has changed a bit again.
1990 to present
The Braves’ current logo removes the offensive imagery of the Indians.
Instead, they used tomahawks (an Indian tool) with the word “Braves” written on them.
